Did you contact me about a team sticker?

I think I sent you an email, but I probably didn’t send you my mailing address... I’m sharp like that, sometimes.

Probably worth mentioning this now, but for those who are deterred by F@H not returning the gains they expect, the BOINC platform has spun up some COVID-19 projects as well. Unlike F@H, BOINC is more optimized for low-mid end platforms and is almost entirely CPU biased (plus you can schedule run times if off-peak computing is more beneficial for you)
. The points may not be as much of a flex but it’s still good science that can be run concurrently with F@H.
Some projects to consider:
World Community Grid, specifically OpenPandemics
(IBM backed platform, studying potential vaccines using existing medical resources)
Rosetta@Home (similar to some F@H projects in studying the basic behaviour of SARS-CoV 2 but very RAM intensive)
The only downside is you need to set up a team per project, so organization can be a bit slower.

If it’s CPU-focused, could you run both on a single machine? In my case, I cut out the CPU slot because my machine was sounding like a jetliner idling on the runway skirt at the airport. Could I do one of these other projects and just give it the CPU slot?
This is an interesting idea. If you would recommend the project that makes the most sense to you, I will try to organize it. We have quite a few people whose computers melted after they returned 400 or 500 points.

Indeed you can. BOINC allows you to not only select the number of cores you wish to allot, but also the maximum thread usage per core. Just remember to keep a few free for the GPU. I would recommend WCG as it’s got a much wider appeal.

Okay, I’d like to pursue this. Will you commit to being my technical consultant as I organize?

I’ll do what I can! New team setup takes up to 24 hours to reflect server side I believe. Just make sure everybody who signs up for a project has a team to join whilst doing so.

I like the sound of what you propose. I like it a lot. I have two machines here I want to test it on. One is this workstation, which I described to you already. I’m folding with a 1060 GPU, but I cut out the CPU folding slot. (Dell Precision quad Xeon i5) and the other is a Precision portable workstation (laptop) with i7 and and some GPU that doesn’t fold too well. I think it’s a Quadro... So I’ll test it out on these two boxes, working in tandem on the workstation with F@h, and solo on the laptop. And I’ll recruit some testers. So when I roll out to Oppo, I want to have a plan dialed, including the team aspect.
What is WCG?

WCG = World Community Grid. OpenPandemics is a subset of WCG that I mentioned prior, though I’m not sure if there’s a way to prioritize crunching these projects in particular or if they’ll just assign you a bunch of units from the larger umbrella. Generally speaking I think 300mb of ram per thread of compute should suffice, but I’m not 100% on this figure.

Yeah, I’m all over organizing the effort, and testing, but too lazy to research and prescribe exactly what we want to undertake. That’s where I’d hope to rely upon you.

There is apparently a reference link through your user profile if you want to give that out later on (although I think this is just for recruit ment) . Alternatively you can sign up for World Community Grid through the native BOINC client (in advanced view) and create an account at that time.
It does appear units are randomly assigned but you can tell when it is OpenPandemics if the file is headed by OPN. Looks like these can get by with 100-250 mb/task.
Edit: it appears you can prioritize projects afterall through the WCG web portal:
